Electrical safety isn’t a new concept. The dangers of electrical shock and electrocution have been recognized for over a century. While the risks associated with arc flash have gained more attention in recent years, it has been on the industry’s radar for some time. As technology advances and standards change, the importance of ongoing electrical safety training remains critical. Staying informed and trained is essential to ensure the safety of all maintenance professionals and equipment.

For those familiar with the NFPA-70E, Standard For Electrical Safety In The Workplace, each revision of this standard since 2004 has had moderate to major changes.  In each article of the standard, any text highlighted in gray is a change from the previous revision. As safety professionals make new discoveries and technology changes, the standard changes. Qualified electrical professionals are busy staying on top of their trade, logging hours, and keeping equipment running.  They might not avail themselves of the opportunity to review each new revision of the 70E; they’re just much too busy.
